World Cup Round 2: The Nordic Orienteering Tour

Posted on | June 15, 2010 | Category: News

Following the European Championships held in Bulgaria earlier this month, the 2010 World Cup continues with three races from the Nordic Orienteering Tour, one race in each of Finland, Sweden and Norway. All three races have interesting new formats.

It is Finland’s turn on Thursday 17th June with a middle distance and sprint combination race to be held at Tuusula, about 30km north of Helsinki. There will be a map exchange at the arena with a change of scale and map standard. The overall winning time will be approximately 35 minutes.

Day 2 of the Tour is on Tuesday 22nd June, a sprint, knock-out style in Stockholm old town, and day 3 is a prolonged middle distance race (winning times – women 40 minutes and men 50 minutes), with chasing start based on the Tour overall time standings after two days, at Raufoss, Norway on Saturday 26th June.

The two Swiss stars Simone Niggli-Luder and Daniel Hubmann will be out to increase the big leads in the World Cup standings they built up with their impressive performances in the European Championships, but there will be no shortage of strong competition with all the major orienteering nations sending full teams to the Tour.

Reports, leading results and pictures will as usual appear on the special World Cup web portal set up on the home page of the IOF website.
