World Cup kicks off in Finland

Posted on | May 20, 2009 | Category: News

The World Cup is the IOF’s official series of events to find the world’s best orienteers, based on all formats, over a season. The World Cup this year consists of nine competitions. In addition to the World Orienteering Championships (WOC) in Hungary, the athletes will fight for World Cup points in Finland, Norway and Switzerland.

The season opens in Finland in the beginning of June, when elite athletes will meet in the city of Salo to compete in Middle distance and Sprint. The terrain will vary from urban in the centre of the city to forested land with bare rock and marshes. The competition will be tough and the event quality will be high with arena production and live TV coverage. The events will therefore be visible and exciting for media, sponsors and spectators.
