World Cup: Kauppi and Öberg still on top

Posted on | June 27, 2009 | Category: News

Minna Kauppi, Finland and Peter Öberg, Sweden, recorded their second victories of the 2009 World Cup series in the third race today, a middle distance race held as part of the O-Festival in Norway. Öberg shared his victory with home runner Carl Waaler Kaas who scored the best run of his orienteering career here. As Öberg didn’t start in the sprint in Finland, he has so far this year won all the World Cup races he’s participated in.

Minna Kauppi had a comfortable victory by 47 seconds over home runner Marianne Andersen, with the Swede Helena Jansson taking third place a further 1 minute and 11 seconds down. Marianne Andersen has now finished in second place in a middle race twice in this series; the Nordic Championships middle race was won by Helena Jansson.

Peter Öberg was the only one of the late starters in the men’s race to challenge Carl Waaler Kaas’s time. He finished with the same time as Kaas, both 21 seconds faster than another Norwegian, Anders Nordberg.

Today the 4th World Cup race of the 2009 series takes place – a long distance race with chasing start and times based on today’s race (winners starting first).
