Swiss runners dominated the top positions in today’s Sprint Qualification, with 4 women and 4 men occupying top-three places in the heats.

Four very well-known names took victory in the four qualifying heats, from which the top 20 go through to the final with the heat winners starting last. In the women’s heats Tove Alexandersson SWE and Judith Wyder SUI were fastest, Alexandersson by 2 seconds and Wyder a rather more comfortable 16. Lizzie Ingham, NZL was 4th in her heat and Hanny Allston, AUS was 6th. Two more Australians, Jasmine Neve and Rachel Effeney, got into the top ten.

Sprint World Champion Søren Bobach DEN lost a lot of time through a big mistake early on and was relieved to eventually qualify for the final in 18th place in his heat.
