Still a junior, Tove Alexandersson turned out in the senior ranks for Sweden today and won the middle distance race in the final round of the World Cup by 1 minute and 29 seconds. Thierry Gueorgiou followed up his brilliant World Championships form with a narrow win over Daniel Hubmann.

Tove Alexandersson has already shown that she can be up with the best seniors, and today was perhaps her best-ever result in her short orienteering career. Helena Jansson, also Sweden, was second and Ida Marie Næss Bjørgul, Norway took a very creditable third place. Annika Billstam, leader in the women’s standings before this race, finished fifteenth and now leads by only 45 points (with double points awarded in the final Sprint tomorrow).

Thierry Gueorgiou won by 13 seconds over World Cup leader Hubmann, and Hubmann’s fellow countryman Fabian Hertner was third. Hubmann still leads the standings by a very comfortable 128 points.

Further reports on the middle distance race are in the ‘Around the Arena’ section, lower on this Home Page.
