World Cup Final: Wyder and Kyburz best in Long Distance

Posted on | October 15, 2016 | Category: News

Home athletes Judith Wyder and Matthias Kyburz kept up the good form they have shown all season with victories in today’s Long Distance race. The Norwegian men’s team excelled in taking the next three places.

Judith Wyder’s win was emphatic – by more than 2 minutes over her team-mate Sabine Hauswirth. She was the fastest throughout the race. Tove Alexandersson, Sweden, current leader in the overall World Cup standings, took third place today, and Maja Alm, Denmark, third in the standings, finished sixth in today’s race.

Matthias Kyburz, already well ahead of all opposition in the overall standings, also had the fastest time throughout and finished looking strong and fresh on a fine and sunny afternoon in Aalau. He had a lead of 21 seconds over the first of the Norwegian threesome, Long Distance specialist Olav Lundanes. The following positions in the race were taken by Carl Godager Kaas, running his final race in a Norwegian vest, and Magne Dæhli.

One race left for this season – the World Cup Final Sprint in Aalau tomorrow. The women’s race takes place between 1415 and 1510 and the men’s from 1520 until 1615, local time. Both races can be followed live with TV and GPS, free of charge, on IOF LiveCenter.
