IOF Foot Orienteering World Cup 2013 Special Rules are published and available on the IOF website. World Cup 2013 starts earlier than normally with the Opening Round in New Zealand early January.

The Opening Round will start on 6 January with a Middle distance race on complex sand-dune terrain on the west coast of the lower North Island. World Cup Event 2 is a Sprint with qualifying and final races in the capital city of Wellington. The qualifying Sprint on 7 January will have an event arena in the grounds of the New Zealand Parliament, while the Sprint Final the following day will take athletes into the grounds of Government House, the official residence of the New Zealand Governor General.

Although World Cup Event 3 does not take place until 13 January, in the intervening period athletes will have the opportunity to compete in the Oceania Long and Oceania Relay Championships. World Cup Event 3 in Hawkes Bay, to be held on a complex area of topography formed by ancient landslides, will feature a prologue followed by a Middle distance with a chasing start based on the prologue results. Further details of the Opening Round are in Bulletin 1+2, which is available on the event website www.oceania2013.co.nz. The Initial Entry Form (due by 30 September 2012) and the Nominal Entry Form (now due by 2 December 2012) are also available on the website.

Federations and individual athletes are reminded that Christmas through the end of January is the peak holiday time in New Zealand. Many motels, hotels and camping grounds may be fully booked by the end of September. Early booking of accommodation is therefore strongly recommended. This period is also the main time for visitors to New Zealand from the northern hemisphere and therefore early reservations of flights and rental vehicles are also advised. Organisers of the Opening Round are also prepared to offer training packages for overseas teams willing to extent their staying in New Zealand with a training camp.
