Who wins The World Games relay? “Sweden for sure!”

Posted on | July 29, 2013 | Category: News

In 4 days The World Games orienteering events kick off in Cali, Colombia. We asked the world top orienteers what their goal is at The Games – and who they think will be the winner of sprint, middle, and mixed sprint relay. Today you’ll hear the thoughts of Daniel Hubmann and Jerker Lysell.

1) What is your goal at The World Games in Colombia?

2) Who do you think are the biggest favourites (or your biggest competitors) to win gold medal in your class?

3) Who do you think will win the Mixed Sprint Relay?

Hubmann_Daniel

Daniel Hubmann, Switzerland. Leading Swiss male orienteer the latest years. Was injured in 2012 but is now back for more. Middle distance winner at the previous World Games in 2009 in Chinese Taipei.

1) After winning medals in Duisburg 2005 and Kaohsiung 2009, I would like to win a medal in Cali too. It’s always exciting to discover new countries and I hope to get familiar with the terrain quickly.

2) The usual suspects: Kyburz, Hertner, Lysell and Fraser.

3) There are many good teams, but the coolest girl on the last leg will bring it home. According to the IOF, the running order “will create more drama for spectators”, so let’s see…

Jerker Lysell, Sweden. Swedish sprint specialist with two World Cup event victories and one bronze medal from the European Championships.

1) The World Games is orienteering’s path to Olympics and because of that it is important that I and the other runners show up. Since I have been injured  a long time I am very excited to run the competitions. My goal is to come home with nice experiences and some medals.

2) The favorites are many but I guess the Swiss guys want revenge after missing medals at the World Champs.

3) Sweden for sure.
