The Nordic Orienteering Tour Stage 2 took place in Göteborg, Sweden, this evening. The Swedish and Swiss colors were again strongly represented in the Knock-Out Sprint final similarly to the first World Cup race in Porvoo last Thursday.

In the women’s race, Galina Vinogradova (RUS) and Lena Eliasson (SWE) took the lead in the beginning of the race. At the 8th control the whole group was back together and Annika Billstam was leading for a moment. Vinogradova soon again started making gap to the other runners, however, this time chased by Linnea Gustafsson (SWE). Gustafsson and Vinogradova were fighting for the first place until the very end but finally Gustafsson had to give in and Vinogradova took victory. Lena Eliasson finished third.

The men’s final was ultimately a battle between Jerker Lysell (SWE) and Daniel Hubmann (SUI). The six finalist took the same routes after control one and Lysell and Hubmann took turns in the lead: Lysell half way through the race and Hubmann for the second half. In the end the 22-year-old Swede managed to beat his Swiss competitor by 2 seconds. The winner of the Porvoo race, Matthias Kyburz, continued with a strong performance and took third place.

Nordic Orienteering Tour continues with Stage 3 in Oslo, Norway, this Saturday.
