Surgery next for the double winner

Posted on | October 10, 2010 | Category: Arena

Daniel Hubmann has had pain in his left foot since April. In about a week’s time he is due to have an operation. Then there will be two months without running.

– It was good to get a very successful end to the World Cup before the surgery, smiles Daniel.

The Swiss star won both the last race and the World Cup overall. The overall win was expected.

He has been thinking that his level maybe is not as good as the last two years where he has also won the World Cup overall. – But I am not sure after the race in central Geneva. It went very well, he says.

With the last start time, given because he was leading overall before the race, he ran to victory and secured his third overall success in the World Cup. – Since I have had injury problems since April, this overall victory almost feels bigger than the previous ones, he says.

His foot has been giving him pain during training since May. At races he has taken some pain killer and hasn’t felt the pain. Because of the foot problem, he has run under half of what he would normally do. But he wouldn’t say that the results at WOC in Trondheim, which were not as good as he has been used to, were due to his foot. – On the long distance I think I could not have won even if I had been in my best shape, he says. In the sprint he was anyway just seconds from gold.

After the surgery he will have to stop running for two months. Then he will start again and he hopes everything will go fine. Daniel is looking forward to winning more races in the future.
