Sprint finish in women’s relay

Posted on | July 13, 2007 | Category: News

Testing courses again put the emphasis on technical skills in the final event of JWOC, the relay. Gold medallists at the end of an exciting day’s racing were Norway’s women and the CzechRepublic’s men.

The women’s relay developed into a particularly exciting last leg, where Sweden’s Jenny Lönnkvist headed Norway’s Siri Ulvestad for most of the leg, only to lose the race by 1 metre at the end of a frantic chase up the run-in. The bronze medals went to Switzerland, whilst Finland, CzechRepublic and Russia took 4th, 5th and 6th places.

CzechRepublic beat the favourites Norway by just over a minute in the men’s race, with Latvia providing the day’s biggest surprise in taking the bronze medals. Sweden, Switzerland and Finland filled the next three places.
