Erik Rost, Sweden proved again today that he is in the best form of his life, winning for the third day in succession in today’s Long Distance race. Mariya Kechkina, Russia won the women’s race after being second five times this season.

Mariya Kechkina and Swede Tove Alexandersson are clearly the two strongest in all the individual formats this season, and in all five races before today Alexandersson came out on top. But today the situation was reversed, with victory for Kechkina by a very convincing 1.53 on the tough and hilly 10.6 km course with 510 m climbing. Evelina Wickbom, Sweden took third place, 3.55 down on Kechkina’s time and just 2 seconds ahead of the fast-improving Norwegian Anna Ulvensøen.

Erik Rost, third in the World Cup standings prior to this round, was challenged all the way by the evergreen veteran Eduard Khrennikov, Russia, who finished 21 seconds down at the end of the gruelling 14.9 km course which had 700 m of climb. Norway’s Lars Moholdt, current Long Distance World Champion, was third for the second day in a row, 1.11 down on the lead time. Only Sweden had 2 athletes in the top 6 today.

Monday is a rest day, and the next race is the Sprint Relay on Tuesday.
