The Swedish team continued its fine form in Germany with a clear win by the first team of Tove Alexandersson and Erik Rost in today’s Sprint Relay. Finland and Norway took second and third places.
At the finish, Sweden’s second team of Magdalena Olsson and Ulrik Nordberg was just 10 seconds down. The third team to finish, 1.11 later, was Finland 2 (Salla Koskela and Janne Hakkinen), followed 18 seconds later by Norway 1 (Anna Ulvensøen and Øyvind Watterdal).
Each team member skis three legs in the order WMWMWM, and it was Sweden 2 in the lead for the first three legs. The decisive part of the race came on leg 4 where Erik Rost, setting off 12 seconds down, came back with a lead of 48 seconds. Salla Koskela came to the changeover a second ahead of Magdalena Olsson at the final changeover, but Ulrik Nordberg made no mistake on the final leg and took a comfortable second place at the end. Norway 1 moved between 4th and 6th place as the race progressed and finished strongly.
Twenty teams in all took part in mild conditions in Mühlleithen. At one stage it seemed that all three Sweden teams could dominate the race, but Sweden 3 ended in 5th place.
Tomorrow the final race, the Relay, takes place.
