Eduard is a full-time ski orienteer and good results are very important for him. His income is based on what kind of results he gets. – I’m a professional, he smiles. He ended up with a gold medal at Middle distance too, on the first competition day in Miercurea Ciuc in Romania this week. It was shared with the Swede Peter Arnesson.

– I had a very good race on the Sprint. I only made one bad route choice and lost ten seconds on that, he says.

The king of ski orienteering has won an almost unbelievable 13 gold medals at World Championships in ski orienteering, but in the European Championships the tally is much lower.– The gold today was only my third European Championships gold and I am really happy over that. My first and only gold before this year was won in Italy in 2002, Eduard said.

For the women it was also just like it was in the Middle distance earlier in the week. Tatiana Vlasova really shows that she is back in ski orienteering after a period with biathlon. – My race was almost perfect, said the Russian, who took her 12th gold at a European Championships; from World Championships she has ten gold medals. The Norwegian Marte Reenaas finished in a better time, but she had been to a wrong control during the race.
