Ski Orienteering World Cup, Event 4: Emphatic victories for Lamov and Tomilova

Posted on | January 18, 2010 | Category: News

Andrei Lamov, current Long distance World Champion, and Natalia Tomilova, winner of the middle distance race on Friday, were emphatic winners of today’s long distance race, the last in the present round of the World Cup held at St. Petersburg, Russia.

Tomilova was 5 minutes and 45 seconds faster than Long distance World Champion Anastasia Kravchenko in second place, with the veteran Finn Liisa Anttila taking third position a further 17 seconds down. Five different nationalities were represented among the first six placings.

Three Russians came in the first six in the men’s race, where Lamov’s lead at the end was 3.19. Second was the up-and-coming Finn Olli-Markus Taivainen in his first year as a senior, an athlete who for sure has still something to gain in physical strength and technical skill as well as experience. It was a tie for third place, with Russians Andrey Grigoriev and Eduard Khrennikov both finishing 4.02 down on the leading time.

Round 2 of this year’s World Cup takes place in Bulgaria and is due to start on 2nd February.
