Ski Orienteering World Cup: Especially nice to win in Sweden

Posted on | March 17, 2010 | Category: Arena

Natalia Tomilova (32) is in really fine form at present. Today she brought the Russians first into the finish in the relay. – It’s especially nice to win the relay here at the home of the Swedes, she says.

Before the last race, Sweden and Russia had equal points, but even though the race was in Sweden it was Russia that finished first. In the last relay, at the European Championships in Romania, the winning team was Sweden.

The Russians were in fact in front of all the other teams all the way. Anastasia Kravchenko changed over first at the end of the first leg, but just some seconds before Kazakhstan. On the second leg Alyona Trapeznikova (23) showed her strength in giving Russia a lead of almost one minute.

Natalia Tomilova, who has a big overall lead in the individual World Cup standings before the last race, again skied a good race in Ånn. – In the last race I will work very hard, smiles Tomilova.

Sweden was “only” number three; Norway beat them too. Marte Reenaas had two juniors with her and they all did well, getting Norway their best women’s result since the World Championships triumph in 2005.
