Today’s race was in two parts: a Sprint prologue in the morning followed by a chasing start shortened Middle distance in the afternoon. In the men’s race this afternoon Stanimir Belomazhev, Bulgaria came through from eighth position and 25 seconds down to take the win in a thrilling sprint finish. Tove Alexandersson was able to hang on to her lead to win the women’s race.

World Cup points are awarded today just on the finishing order in the second race.

The first six in the men’s race finished within 12 seconds of each other, with morning leader Andrey Lamov recorded 1 second slower than Belomazhev in second place. One second behind again was the Swede Andreas Holmberg.

Tove Alexandersson’s final margin was 14 seconds, with Tatyana Rvacheva coming up from fifth, 39 seconds down in the chasing start, to finish second. In third place was Swedish skier Magdalene Olsson who moved up from sixth place at the start.

In both the women’s and the men’s race, Sweden had three finishers in the top six in the results – a fine performance by the Swedish team.

Tomorrow (Friday) is a rest day. There are two more races in this round at Orsa Grönklitt in Sweden; the next is a Relay on Saturday, and the round finishes with a Long distance race on Sunday.
