Simone Niggli has reached her highest ever level of performance, and there could still be one more World Championships for the Swiss phantom.

“Do you know how many golds you have achieved”, the interviewer asked at the press conference after the race. “Yes, I know”, she smiled. It’s an incredible 23.

In the Middle distance final she made a mistake at the beginning of the race and lost about half a minute. Minna Kauppi started 90 seconds after Simone. “I didn’t get stressed in the forest. Now I think that’s bit strange with Minna starting just behind me”. Otherwise she ran a superb race as always.

At the press conference she was asked if she was getting better and better, and she is. “I am more calm, have more experience. My running speed is maybe not so easy to compare with earlier, but totally I think I have reached my highest point”.

This level can be something the other competitors have to deal for even one more year. “When I went on last autumn I said it was for one or two years. Nothing more is known now. But if I go for Italy that will be my very last”, she says.

New challenges are also coming as an organiser. She and husband Matthias Niggli will be Directors for the coming Junior World Orienteering Championships in Engadin, Switzerland in 2016.
