European Ski Orienteering Championships ended today with Relay. In the women’s class, Finland (Mira Kaskinen) was second after the first leg, but came in the lead from the second leg after Sonja Mörsky’s excellent route choices at the end of the course. Last-leg skier Mervi Pesu could take it “easy” and bring the gold to Finland, before Russia and Norway.

Men’s relay was dramatic to the very end. Lars Hol Moholdt, Norway, started the last leg 1.20 minutes before Russia and Finland, after Øyvind Watterdal’s and especially Hans Jørgen Kvåle’s great performances on the legs before him. Russia had, however, Andrei Lamov as last-leg skier, and he is the absolute king of this ski orienteering season. he started very well, and after 2.2 kilometres he was only 40 seconds behind Norway. At the end Lars Hol Moholdt managed to keep Russia, and others behind him and take home the victory. Russia got silver, 13 seconds behind Norway, and Finland bronze.
