The IOF Council decided in its October meeting to remove the Long distance qualification event from the World MTB Orienteering Championships programme and to replace it by an allocation of start slots to federations. The IOF MTB Orienteering Commission has now prepared a model proposal for the allocation of start slots. The proposal has been sent to all national federations for hearing.

The MTB Orienteering Commission will  go through the comments from the national federations after January 10, and make their final proposal to Council after that.

The proposed system is based on World Rankings and results from previous World Championships.
