Our Athlete of the Month – big favourite at European and World Championships

Posted on | January 4, 2015 | Category: News

Athlete of January 2015, Andrey Lamov has come a long way from watching as 15-year-old the world ski orienteering elite compete in his home country at the World Cup final in 2001.

“I saw the ski orienteering elite there and was very impressed. I especially remember red-haired Matti Keskinarkaus. He won at Middle Distance so easily and also won the World Cup overall. At that time I wasn’t dreaming about being amongst the best, but I think something of what I saw must have affected me.”

Five years later, he won four gold medals at the Junior World Championships 2006, and has since won several medals at the World Championships, and most recently the overall World Cup in 2014. Read about his journey from an 8-year-old beginner to number one in Ski Orienteering!
