Orienteering World Cup 2005: Exciting and compact first round in Great Britain

Posted on | November 24, 2004 | Category: News

The athletes, spectators and the media will experience a truly exciting and worthy start-up of the 2005 Orienteering World Cup series. The British Orienteering Federation (BOF) and the IOF have agreed to make some further changes to the programme of the first round in order to make it more compact than originally planned.

BOF is now planning a revised programme that will provide an exciting event of 5 days over the first Bank Holiday weekend in May 2005. Subject to final access agreements, the revised race programme will be:
* Sprint Qualification at the University of Surrey, Guildford on Friday evening (April 29th)
* Relay at Mytchett, Frith Hill and Old Windmill Hill, Deepcut on Saturday (April 30th)
* Long Distance at Winterfold, Peaslake on Sunday (May 1st)
* Sprint Final at Battersea Park on Bank Holiday Monday (May 2nd)
* Middle Distance at Leith Hill (SW) on Tuesday (May 3rd)
The event will continue to be based on Guildford and the event centre will remain at The Spectrum Leisure Complex in Guildford. There will be a series of public/development races associated with the World Cup Races and further information will shortly be made available.
BOF and the event officials will continue to work with the IOF in order to stage an exciting series of races for the competitors, spectators, sponsors, partners and the media and, in general, to promote and develop the sport of orienteering.
The ‘Surrey Five-O’ public events will be staged in conjunction with this compact World Cup programme and replaces the previously announced Southern Six-Day competition.
