Orienteering Achievement of 2012

The prestigious annual poll to find the Orienteering Achievement of 2012 is now open. There are in fact two polls, one for women and one for men, and this year for the first time teams are included in the lists of nominations as well as individuals.

The poll is open until midnight (CET) on Monday 10th December, and the full nominations list and voting form can be found on the website http://poll.worldofo.com/2012/. The results will be announced on the worldofo.com website on Thursday 13th December.

In all, 13 individual athletes – 5 women and 8 men – and 3 teams have been nominated. “The best achievement of the year is to be named, and not necessarily the best orienteer of 2012”, says Jan Kocbach, organiser of the poll. The nomination list is therefore quite wide-ranging. The three teams listed are the Czech men’s and Swiss women’s World Championships relay teams and the Russian women’s European Championships relay team.

Winners last year were Ida Bobach and Thierry Gueorgiou, and in 2010 Simone Niggli and Olav Lundanes. Last year around 3,000 votes were cast in all, from 50 different countries.
