Organisers overcame the challenging weather

The organisers of the World Ski Orienteering Championships have had a lot of pressure this week. It has been exceptionally snowy in Tänndalen, and with the strong wind yesterday the organisers already considered delaying the Mixed relay. Fortunately they were still able to stick to the original schedule. Despite the challenging conditions, the Event Director, Stefan Frick, doesn’t seem too worried. “We are used to different kinds of weather”, he comments.

Almost all of the organisers live a bit further away from Tänndalen in Härjedalen. The person living closest to Tänndalen has 250 kilometres to go. Frick himself lives 600 kilometres away but he doesn’t really mind the distance. “It’s nice to organise events up here. It is a bit different from how it is at home”, he says.

Stefan is an experienced ski orienteering event organiser who has put a huge amount of effort to making things happen. Now the Swede thinks he will slow down the pace, however. “First of all, I don’t have the same energy any longer. Secondly, ski orienteering will move from the ski federation to the orienteering federation here in Sweden which will make the situation quite different. There will be more help from the federation and more clubs organising big events.” Stefan explains.
