In 2009 Johan Runesson got three gold medals and one silver at the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. In the qualifications at the European Orienteering Championships he has shown that he can do well in senior class too.

15/05/2012 || Long Qualification: emphatic victory for Simone Niggli

Defending European Champion at Long Distance, Simone Niggli, set out her stall in perfect fashion today with a win by as much as 2:42 over one of yesterday’s qualification winners, Minna Kauppi. The male defending champion, Daniel Hubmann, wasn’t on the start list today, but his country Switzerland is the only one to have 12 runners in the finals.

For three months at the end of last year, Minna Kauppi didn’t run at all, and she felt very restless. But in the first qualification race of the European Orienteering Championships (also the first round of the World Cup) she impressed everyone with a fine performance.
