MTBO World Cup Sprint: Emily Benham and Krystof Bogar take top places

Posted on | June 4, 2017 | Category: Arena, News

The women’s 1-2 was the reverse of yesterday, with Emily Benham, Great Britain in front of Martina Tichovska, Czech Republic by 19 seconds. The men’s race featured a convincing victory for the Czech rider Krystof Bogar.

On a hilly course with a mix of terrain in and around Zwettl, Austria, it was Emily Benham who rode to victory on the women’s course. She didn’t have it all her own way, however, and had to work very hard for her win after a poor second leg on which she was 39th fastest. In the later stages, Tichovska led over a 3-control span before Benham got ahead on the last 2 legs. Third was the Finn Antonia Haga, 29 seconds down on Benham’s time. Olga Shipilova Vinogradova RUS led in the early stages but mispunched towards the end. Sixth place was taken by Hana Garde FRA who is World Ranked number 68.

Krystof Bogar also had a slow second leg, but rode consistently after that and held the fastest time all the way from control 4 to the finish. His team-mate Vojtech Ludvik took second place, 58 seconds slower, and the Swiss rider Simon Braendli, fifteenth in the IOF World Rankings, was third, 1.37 down on Bogar. Anton Foliforov RUS, leading rider last season, was fourth, and yesterday’s winner Luca Dallavalle ITA was seventh.

The last race of this round, the Long Distance, takes place at Grafenschlag tomorrow. Very hilly terrain with forest and open areas is promised; the women ride 25.1 km with 875 m climb, and the men have 34.9 km with a massive 1,150 m of climbing. Tomorrow’s start interval is 3 minutes, with the first starter at 9.00.
