MTBO World Cup: gruelling Long Distance won by Benham and Malsroos

Posted on | September 30, 2016 | Category: News

Emily Benham, Great Britain and Lauri Malsroos, Estonia both had clear victories by more than three minutes in a hard race in Lithuania today where no-one finished in a time of under 2 hours.

The win by Benham cemented her position at the top of the World Cup standings, with her only possible challenger, Gaelle Barlet from France, finishing third today. Second place went to Svetlana Poverina, Russia who was 3.16 down on the winning time.

Lauri Malsroos was fourth in the overall standings before today’s race, and in the absence of Anton Foliforov who has dominated the World Cup races all season, he gave his chances of an overall second place a good boost with a win by 3.09. The consistent Ruslan Gritsan, Russia was second and Krystof Bogar, Czech Republic third. Fourth place was taken by another Czech, Vojtech Stransky, who had a really good race; prior to this he was 28th in the standings.

Tomorrow the Middle Distance race takes place at Panemunė.
