Mountain Bike Orienteering World Cup: Familiar names in the top spots

Second round of the Mountain Bike Orienteering World Cup takes place this week in conjunction with the World Masters Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships in Gdansk, Poland. There were no surprise winners at the first event, long distance, on Friday.

Five-fold world champion Michaela Gigon, Austria, won the women’s race before current World Cup leader Christine Schaffner, Switzerland. Martina Tichovska, Czech Republic, finished third, 18 seconds ahead of Poland’s Anna Kaminska.

In the men’s race, Beat Schaffner, Switzerland, took lead in the overall World Cup after a victory with a margin of 55 seconds to Anton Foliforov, Russia. Erik Skovgraad Knudsen finished third, and is currently second in the World Cup standings.

The competitions continue on Saturday with middle distance and on Sunday with mixed relay. For more information, please visit the organisers’ homepage.
