Martin Regborn best in men’s Middle Distance

Sweden showed strength in depth in the men’s Middle race, with eight finishers in the top fourteen including four in the top six. Best of all of them was Martin Regborn, 29 seconds quicker than Olav Lundanes, Norway.

This was terrain where the technically and physically strong Nordic runners could do well, and so it proved, with only Switzerland’s Matthias Kyburz able to break into the leading pack – he was fourth. Like Helena Jansson earlier, Regborn enjoyed a near error-free run, although he had to wait some time at the finish before he could celebrate victory. Both Kyburz, last-but-one starter, and the final starter Lundanes threatened to match his time for a while, but eventually it became clear that neither could get to the finish in a faster time.

Tomorrow the final competition of this World Cup round will be held, a Long Distance race with chasing start, using the same arena as today. The start times are based on results from the Sprint Qualification and yesterday’s Middle Distance, plus the application of a bonus-second rule related to performance. The races start from 10.00 local time.
