Lundanes and Fincke winners of today’s qualifications

Orienteering World Cup 2011 started today with Nordic Orienteering Tour Stage 1. The qualification took place in Porvoo, Finland, this morning. Switzerland had a very strong performance in the men’s race with six athletes among the ten best qualifiers. Olav Lundanes won the men’s qualification with Pasi Ikonen second and Matthias Merz third. Some big names were also left out of the final: Graham Gristwood and Kiril Nikolov barely missed the top 30 with places 31 and 35 respectively.
Anni-Maija Fincke was the fastest in the women’s qualification with a 24 seconds’ gap to Heidi Bagstevold. Merja Rantanen finished third. Below a list of the top six male and female qualifiers for the final this evening. For a complete list of results, please click here.
