Kratov – “I’m not experienced in this kind of terrain”

Verdenscup langdistanse Kongsberg 8. juni 2014

Oleksandr Kratov didn’t feel very comfortable with the terrain in the Long distance World Cup race in Norway, but on the podium he stepped to the top.

The Ukrainian had a very good race, but he didn’t take the smartest route choices all the way. On one of the long legs he lost about two minutes to the fastest ones.

“I liked the terrain, but I don’t have that much experience in such terrain. I need more practice to really know what’s best to do all the time”. In early spring he won his first World Cup race in Spain. That was a Middle distance.

“My goal for Italy? A medal as always, and I hope to be in the fight for the gold”, he says. Kratov has been living in Sweden for some years.

Just 21 seconds was the gap to the Norwegian veteran Hans Gunnar Omdal.

The second World Cup race in Norway was as at the same arena as Saturday’s race, just outside Kongsberg, about 100 kilometres south west of Oslo. Athletes from 20 nations took part in Norway with about 50 men and 50 women. The next race is a Sprint in Imatra in south-east Finland in an area called South Karelia. On Wednesday there is a city Sprint and on Thursday it is a Sprint Relay in Imatra (not part of the official World Cup).
