Junior World Orienteering Championships: New nations make presence felt

The sport is developing! Even if the terrain in the Junior World Orienteering Championships suited runners from the Nordic countries, also athletes from other countries did very well in Gothenburg.

The French girls impressed at JWOC. Karine D’Harreville (in the middle) won bronze in the middle. On the relay she and her team mates Gaelle Barlet (closest) and Marine Leloup gained fifth place.

The Russians Yury Kiryyanov, Dmitry Masnyy and Georgy Mavchun won silver in the relay.

Sakire Bilgin, from Turkey, close to the finish on the tough long distance.

Ursula Kadan, from Austria, was almost the first starter but secured a very good 12th place on the long distance.

Jeremy Genar from Belgium brought some extra drink for the long distance – you can see it attached to his belt.

Thomas Reynolds from New Zealand is in front of Javier Ruiz de la Herranz Pindal from Spain on the long distance.

Estonian Timo Sild won silver on long distance.

Venla Niemi from Finland won the middle distance.

Olav Johannes Deelstra from Netherlands was 13th on both sprint and long.
