Junior World Orienteering Championships – a good day for Sweden’s women

Sweden took top position in all 3 women’s heats in the middle distance qualification races held in Poland today. Double gold medallist Ida Bobach was placed second in her heat, 5 seconds slower than winner Linnea Martinsson.

Sweden will be very confident of getting the middle distance gold medal for the third successive year after today’s performances. In addition to Linnea Martinsson, Johanna Olsson and Tove Alexandersson (gold medallist in 2009 and 2010) both won their heats.

Winners of the men’s heats, giving the coveted final starting times in the final tomorrow, were Eskil Kinneberg, Norway, Andreu Blanes, Spain and Marius Thrane Ødum, Denmark. Long distance gold medallist Yngve Skogstad (Norway) finished sixth in his heat, and sprint champion Lucas Basset (France) was third in his.
