Frédéric Donzé, the Director of WADA’s European Regional Office and International Federations Relations, spoke at the IWGA General Meeting.

Several associations held their annual meetings today at SportAccord Convention in St Petersburg, Russia.

The General Meeting of the International World Games Association (IWGA) decided to admit three new sports as members of IWGA. The new IWGA members are Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL), the International Floorball Federation (IFF), and the International Muaythai Federation Amateur (IFMA). Being member of IWGA does not automatically mean that the sport is included in The World Games. The decision on the sports included in The World Games 2017 will be taken after the Games in Cali, Colombia, which take place 25 July – 5 August 2013.

The Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF) held its Council elections today. The Council consists of six members, namely the President, the Vice President, the Secretary General, and three Directors. Jan Fransoo, ARISF President since 2005, and Barbro Rönnberg, ARISF Secretary General since 2005, did not stand for re-election. International Powerboating Union President Raffaele Chiulli, ITA, was elected new President, and Ricardo Fraccari, ITA, President of the International Baseball Federation was elected Secretary General. Fernando Aguerre, president of the International Surfing Association is the new ARISF Vice President and the three Directors are Keith Calkins, Molly Rhone, and Harald Vervaecke.

IOF President Brian Porteous paid a warm tribute to Barbro’s role in ARISF saying, “in her time as Secretary General of ARISF, Barbro has made a huge contribution to world sport which has been fully recognised by the member organisations and board. She has greatly enhanced the status of orienteering by the way in which she has delivered that role”.

At the International Masters Games Association’s (IMGA) meeting it was told that orienteering is at the moment the sport with the most entries to the World Masters Games in Turin, Italy, in August 2013. To visit the orienteering event homepage, please click here.
