The annual SportAccord Convention was held this year in Aarhus, Denmark from April 3 – 7. The Convention is the most important annual gathering of international sports federations and consists of a number of meetings, seminars, an exhibition and social activities. For the IOF, SportAccord has become an important place to both share and gather knowledge about a number of issues facing international sports federations and how others have solved them. Since this really is a gathering of all important cooperation partners within sports, it is also an excellent place to discuss and solve ongoing issues.
During the week General Assemblies are held for those organisations which the IOF is a member of.
- The International Masters Games Association (IMGA)
- The International World Games Association (IWGA)
- The Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF)
- SportAccord, the association of all international sports federations, both Olympic and non-Olympic.
In addition to the General Assemblies a large number of working meetings are also held, for example this year regarding the final planning for The World Games and the status of orienteering in the World Masters Games.
The IOF was very much present in the overall program for the week. On Tuesday morning we organised a Morning Activity session showcasing orienteering in central Aarhus. The Danish national team Sports Director Lars Lindstrøm and national team runner Tue Lassen gave the participants some valuable orienteering instruction on a cold and clear morning. A great way to start the day.
On Wednesday, the IOF was part of the Plenary Conference program with a presentation to an audience of about 100, on how technological innovation has changed our sport making it more visible, accessible and attractive. You can watch the video of the presentation below.
The exhibition has become an important part of the IOF activities for the week and a particular focus this year was on presenting all our various IOF events to potential venues which were present.|| Print page ||
