Ikonen winner of Men’s Middle distance with an impressive performance

Posted on | September 24, 2011 | Category: News

Today’s Men’s Middle can be described as a one-man-show. Finland’s Pasi Ikonen took the lead in between controls three and four after which Norway’s Olav Lundanes followed him tight. After control nine, however, Ikonen was so strong that he managed to maintain a half minute lead until the very end of the race and left Lundanes, Thierry Gueorgiou (FRA), Daniel Hubmann (SUI) and Gernot Kerschbaumer (AUT) fighting for the two other spots on the podium. Lundanes and Gueorgiou were rather even until control 14 where Lundanes made a mistake and Gueorgiou got away. During the last controls the triplet Kerschbaumer, Lundanes and Hubmann was very close to each other but Kerschbaumer secured his third place with a six seconds’ gap to Hubmann finishing fourth.
