“I made my mistakes at the start of the leg”

On the last leg of the women’s relay many mistakes were made, but at the end it was Finland’s very experienced Minna Kauppi again coming first to the finish.

“I made some mistakes at the beginning of the course. That was enough. I didn’t want to make more mistakes”, she laughs.

The Finnish star started the last leg in fifth place, but there were only 37 seconds up to the leader from Ukraine. During the last leg a lot of different runners were in front. First it looked like Annika Billstam (Sweden) was on the way to victory. Marianne Andersen from Norway got ahead later in the leg. Then Dana Brozkova was leading for a while, but there were mistakes and mistakes in the very tricky terrain.

In fact Minna also ran a bit in a wrong direction to the second last control together with Rahel Friederich from Switzerland. These two were in front, but the Finn managed to get back on track.

Minna Kauppi got some metres ahead and punched first at the last control. She looked back on the way to the finish line, but she and her team-mates couldn’t run together for the last few metres due to the very close fight to the line. Ann-Maija Fincke and Merja Rantanen could however show big smiles; Finland was again the winner. For Minna it was her fifth relay victory since 2006.

The Czech Republic got silver and was very satisfied with that. “Minna was first at the last control. I had to punch an extra time and had no chance to pass her, but silver is good”, smiles Dana Brozkova.
