First WMOC medals decided in the urban Sprint in Sestriere

The first final of the World Masters Orienteering Championships 2013, Sprint, took place yesterday in Italy at the heart of the Olympic Mountains. The competitors fought over medals in the narrow streets and small parks of Sestriere village located 2000 m above sea level and only 17 km from the French border.

Sweden took 13 medals in total, 8 of which came in the women’s classes. Finland was the second strongest nation with 10 medals followed by Switzerland and Germany with 6 medals.

The Championships will continue tomorrow and Thursday with Long distance qualification races in Sansicario Pariol. The Long distance final will be held in Claviere and Cesana Monti della Luna on Saturday. For complete results and photos from the events, please visit the event website at www.wmoc2013.it.
