Martina Tichovska CZE and Lauri Malsroos EST took the gold medals in the individual Sprint held today in Portugal.

After some close racing early on, Marika Hara from Finland was the fastest between controls 6 and 16 of the 26-control course in Penha Garcia, Portugal. Martina Tichovska was in front time-wise thereafter, but Emily Benham, Great Britain, who was 17 seconds down on the lead at control 24, made a great spurt towards the finish and was just two seconds down on Tichovska’s time at the end. Hara finished third.

In the men’s race, Russia’s Ruslan Gritsan was the leader through the middle stages and Cedric Beill, France was fastest through the third quarter of the race. Lauri Malsroos took over the lead for the final quarter and finished 11 seconds faster than Valeriy Glukhov, Russia, with Gritsan taking the bronze medal.

France took both junior titles: Lou Denaix won the women’s race by 39 seconds and Antoine Vercauteren the men’s by 32 seconds-
