European Cup in Trail Orienteering: overall win for Slovakian Ján Furucz

Posted on | October 3, 2016 | Category: News

Ján Furucz of Slovakia is the winner of this year’s unofficial European Cup (ECTO), coming through to take the overall lead from Remo Madella, Italy in the final round held at Halden in Norway. He had two second places, one third and one fourth amongst his results for the year.

This has been a very successful year in TrailO for Ján, who was a member of the gold-medal Slovakian team in the first-ever World TrailO Championships Relay held in Strömstad, Sweden in August. No-one who was there will forget his speedy and correct answers at the final timed station that won his team the gold! He also won the bronze medal in the TempO competition at the European Championships this year.

265 competitors in all have taken part in one or more of the ten competitions that made up the Cup programme. Four competitors took part in all the competitions, taking them to Portugal, Slovakia, Italy, Lithuania and Norway in the period from April to September. The highest placed of the four was Sigurd Dæhli, Norway who finished in 7th place overall with a second place as best result.

The standings use a points system based on placings in the competitions, with a competitor’s five highest points scores counting for the total score. The full list of final standings can be found on this website under the menu heading Trail Orienteering within the sub-heading Events & Results.

ECTO will take place again in 2017 in the same format as this year; the programme will be announced shortly.
