Daniel Leibundgut appointed World Orienteering Championships SEA/Project Manager

Daniel Leibundgut from Switzerland has been appointed WOC SEA/Project Manager. Daniel will take on the part-time responsibility for Project Managing the IOF Event Advising team  in the new structure which was recently announced. Daniel will work in cooperation with WOC Event Directors to deliver a consistent high-level of quality and experience at the coming WOC events.

Daniel Leibundgut has been an IOF accredited Event Adviser since 2004.  At the World Orienteering Championships in Switzerland 2003 (Rapperswil) and 2012 (Lausanne) he was responsible for timekeeping and event administration, including the production of live GPS tracking, TV-graphics and Internet live timing. He has also been responsible for the IT and results service of the Orienteering World Cup Final Events staged in Switzerland the past years. At The World Games 2009 (Kaohsiung) and 2013 (Cali), he was a member of IOF organizing team for orienteering. He has also been IOF Senior Event Adviser for example at World Cup Round 1 2016 in Poland. Daniel works as a Project Manager for the Swiss Federal Railway SBB in the Passenger Traffic Division, when he is not doing orienteering work.

“Daniel’s combination of professional project management skills and extensive experience with high level orienteering events will be a true asset to the IOF as we continue to develop the World Orienteering Championships and other major events towards higher quality and greater visibility” according to Tom Hollowell, IOF CEO.

“My vision is to leverage IOF and their major event organisers towards high quality and professionally organised events”, says Daniel Leibundgut. “The new WOC event advising structure enables the organisation of major events to match the expectations of our athletes. To set up structures and tools for leading the event advising teams at major IOF events is both challenging and fascinating.”

Daniel will transition into the position in cooperation with current WOC SEA Jørn Sundby. Jørn retains the overall responsibility for WOC 2017 in Estonia and Daniel will take over the overall responsibility for WOC 2018 and beyond.
