Tove Alexandersson is doing incredibly well during both winter and summer season. According to her, the secret is to keep focusing on the essential each step on the way. “There’s so much that can happen during one race that it’s easy to lose concentration”, she says. This is why Tove puts extra effort in concentration while practising. At the World Orienteering Championships Sprint distance she took advantage of what she had learned and started off by taking the world champion title.

In foot orienteering, Tove has won the Middle distance at Junior World Orienteering Championships two times in a row. This year’s Junior World Orienteering Championships in Poland are a goal for the summer, but she is also getting ready for the World Orienteering Championships in France. “We will see how it goes.” she says.

Tove practises orienteering also during winter time. Last week she took part in the Swedish national team’s training camp from where she travelled directly to the World Ski Orienteering Championships in Härjedalen. “It was useful practising at the camp before coming to the World Ski Orienteering Championships”, says Tove.

The World Ski Orienteering Championships and the Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships in Lillehammer, Norway have been the major goals for this multitalented young athlete this winter.  Tove managed to win two individual gold medals in Lillehammer and has already proven her guts by winning the Sprint gold medal. The Swede will surely be a tough competitor also in the remaining championships events.

Olli-Markus focuses on the Long distance

At the last World Ski Orienteering Championships in Japan Olli-Markus Taivainen, still a junior at that time, gathered a total of three medals – one of each kind. This year he is already the king of Sprint distance, but he has, in fact, mostly prepared himself for the long distance race on Saturday.

The Finn is similar to Tove Alexandersson in the sense that he performes unbelievably well all year round. Last season he stole the whole show and won all four gold medals at the Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships. He also managed to take a victory at the Junior World Orienteering Championships. “I am practising both sports now. Perhaps I will focus a bit more on orienteering as the World Orienteering Championships 2013 are in Vuokatti, Finland. After the Sprint victory I will have to continue with ski orienteering, though, since I now have a free spot in the next World Orienteering Championships Sprint”, he comments.
