Asian Orienteering Championships: double victories for Shuangyan Hao and Qiaoping Li

Posted on | October 21, 2012 | Category: News

The Asian Orienteering Championships at Wuxi, a town beside the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, had individual races in Sprint and Middle distance, both won by the leading Chinese orienteers Shuangyan Hao and Qiaoping Li.

Shuangyan Hao had her most impressive victory at Middle distance, where she won by almost 5 minutes over her compatriot Mingyue Zhu. But in the Sprint too she finished with a good lead of 1.26. She is consistently the best in China at present, demonstrating this also in the World Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland where she finished 13th in the Sprint final. Her best result at a World Championships so far is 10th in the Sprint in Hungary in 2009. In the Middle final this year in Switzerland she was 37th.

Qiaoping Li won the men’s Sprint race by 1.12 from Yefeng Luo, also China, but the Middle race was a closer affair, where victory was by 20 seconds over Xiang Li.
