The first official Mass Start race ended in a mass sprint for the line in the men’s race, with the first six finishers within 4 seconds and thirteen within the first minute. World Champions are Emily Benham, Great Britain and Luca Dallavalle, Italy.

The Russian Olga Shipilova-Vinogradova and the Czech rider Krystof Bogar are the first gold medal winners in the Championships after a gruelling race in wet and muddy conditions in the hilly forests around Vilnius, Lithuania.

The race for medals is very open at this year’s Championships, with no rider having any extended supremacy in this season so far. Vilnius, capital city of Lithuania, hosts the combined Senior and Junior Championships, with 5 races scheduled for the period 21-26 August.
