26/07/2014 || JWOC Middle Distance Final: three gold medal winners! ||News||

A technically challenging Middle Distance Final in the Junior World Championships in Bulgaria ended today with two women gold medallists: Sina Tommer, Switzerland and Sara Hagström, Sweden recorded exactly the same time for the 3.1 km course. The men’s title went to Miika Kirmula, Finland.

Twenty nations in the women’s final; twenty-four in the men’s, twenty-five overall. Those are the statistics after the qualification races today. Only three nations have a full complement of women or men through: Denmark and Sweden in the women’s and Finland in the men’s.

It was back in action today for runners in the Junior World Orienteering Championships, with up to six women and six men from each nation taking part in the Middle Distance qualification races. There were 3 women’s and 3 men’s heats, with the top 20 from each heat going through to tomorrow’s final.
