07/09/2012 || Nordic Tour: Finland Sprint wins for Niggli and Leandersson ||News||

Simone Niggli was back on the winning path today, after her lapse in the knock-out Sprint in Gothenburg, with victory in the Sprint final in Kajaani by 11 seconds over her long-time rival Helena Jansson. The men’s race was won by the young Swede Jonas Leandersson, who is current European Champion in Sprint with victory in Sweden in May.

The Nordic Orienteering Tour competitors are now in Vuokatti, Finland, preparing for the final two days of World Cup competition this year. The Swiss athletes Simone Niggli and Matthias Kyburz are at the head of the Nordic Tour standings, whilst in the overall World Cup the current leaders are Simone Niggli and Norway’s Olav Lundanes.

20-year-old Danish athlete Emma Klingenberg was first to the finish in today’s knock-out Sprint final, 5 seconds in front of the experienced Russian Tatyana Ryabkina at the line. Favourite for the men’s race Matthias Kyburz, Switzerland triumphed by 4 seconds at the end of an intense and very close-fought battle.
