23/09/2012 || MTB Orienteering World Cup: Finland wins final Relay ||News||

Finland was the hot favourite for victory today in the final Relay of the World Cup series, and duly obliged with a win by 2.32 over the Czech Republic. Finland displayed strength in depth with three teams in the first four, and Russia was the third nation to finish. Finland – Czech Republic – Russia is also the order of teams in the final Relay standings.

22/09/2012 || MTB Orienteering World Cup: overall victories for Hara and Laurila ||News||

In the final World Cup standings, Marika Hara and Jussi Laurila of Finland have the highest points scores by big margins – 85 for Hara and 52 for Laurila. Both have shown supremacy in all formats of individual competition this season, not least in the final Long Distance event today.

22/09/2012 || MTB Orienteering World Cup Final: Finnish riders end season in style ||News||

The two Finnish leaders in the World Cup standings, Marika Hara and Jussi Laurila, were the winners of the final individual races, over Long Distance, in the World Cup in Estonia today. Hara’s win was by 1.18 whilst Laurila’s was tighter, just 11 seconds. Finnish riders also took second place in both races.

Today’s Sprint Final provided success for home athlete Tonis Erm, who achieved his best-ever result in World Cup competition, and for pre-race favourite Marika Hara, Finland, who enhanced her position at the top of the women’s World Cup standings.

Estonia hosts three races this weekend – individual Sprint and Long Distance and a Mixed Relay – to complete this year’s World Cup programme. The two Finns Marika Hara and Jussi Laurila will both be defending 32-point leads in the World Cup standings, and Finland leads the Relay competition by 10 points.

Simone Niggli and Matthias Kyburz made no mistake in the demanding terrain and the stress of the chasing start in the World Cup Final over Middle distance today. Simone Niggli became the overall World Cup winner by the massive margin of 304 points, and Kyburz was in front overall by 96 points after Olav Lundanes was disqualified on Friday.
