The VII Asian Winter Games were opened with the Ski Orienteering Sprint events at the Sodatskoye Uschcelje Ski Stadium in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The conditions were perfect: sunshine, few degrees minus, white snow, and the impressing Talgar mountains with 4000 meters high peaks in the background.

The number of athletes that each nation can enter in the World Cup events in 2011 is based on the World Ranking List Federation League table (World Cup 11 Quotas) as at 1 January 2011.

The ski orienteering events in the Asian Winter Games in Astana and Almaty, Kazakhstan, begin on Monday with sprint. This is the first time that ski orienteering is present at these multi sport games, which are held every four years for members of the Olympic Council of Asia.

IOF World Cup 2011 in foot orienteering will begin with the second Nordic Orienteering Tour in Finland, Sweden and Norway. The first round is scheduled for 16-25 June. Following the decisions at the 2010 IOF General Assembly in Trondheim, the IOF Council appointed a project group to develop a proposal for the future World Orienteering Championships (WOC) programme.
28/01/2011 || Staffan Tunis new member of the Ski Orienteering Athletes’ Commission ||News||
Relay World Champion Staffan Tunis, Finland, joined the Athletes’ Commission for Ski Orienteering just before the European Championships kick off in Norway next week. Tunis replaces Hannele Tonna in the Commission.

The criteria for eligibility for the paralympic class in trail orienteering events has been updated. The amended Competition Rules for IOF Trail Orienteering Events will come into effect 1 February 2011.

At its meeting in Helsinki, Finland, the IOF Council provisionally approved the application for membership from the Mountaineering Association of Montenegro. To be final, the Council’s decision must be ratified by the XXVI Ordinary General Assembly in Lausanne in 2012.

The IOF Council has, at its meeting in Helsinki, established an Athletes’ Commission for Trail Orienteering. After the decision, all four IOF disciplines have an Athletes’ Commission.
