23/03/2010 || Khrennikov and Gros win at CISM Winter World Games ||News||

Athletes from 17 countries competed today on middle distance ski orienteering race at the first CISM Winter Military World Games. This year’s World Cup winner Eduard Khrennikov, Russia, was fastest even in Italy and took a convincing victory before Norway’s Eivind Tonna. Women’s race was really tight: Christelle Gros, France, finished only 0.1 seconds before Natalia Naumova, Russia.

19/03/2010 || Ski orienteering world elite meets at Winter Military World Games ||News||

When the ski orienteering event at the first CISM Winter World Games in Aosta Valley, Italy takes place on Tuesday 25 March, there are four World Champions on the start line. Eduard Khrennikov and Natalya Tomilova, who just a few days ago secured the overall World Cup 2010 victories, will have a tough fight to win the middle distance mass start race. Khrennikov will have to defeat the winner of the last World Cup race, Olli-Markus Taivainen, whereas Tomilova is challenged by her team mate Tatiana Vlasova, who won two of the three World Cup races she participated in this year.

18/03/2010 || Ski Orienteering World Cup: Norway’s big relay win: Victory means a lot for the sport ||Arena||

In winning the final race and the World Cup for teams overall, Norway achieved its first big international triumph in a men’s relay since 2003.
–The victory means a lot for us and ski orienteering in Norway. We achieve good results and other athletes in Norway see that they are alongside athletes that are doing well, says Eivind Tonna, the 35-year-old veteran who skied the first leg in the winning team.

Natalya Tomilova likes it tricky, and is looking forward to next winter’s World Championships and the chance for an individual gold. She has won the overall World Cup twice, but is still missing an individual World Championship title.

Olli-Markus Taivainen likes it tough, and for a long time he had been looking forward to the last demanding race in the World Cup, the ultra-long distance. He ended up winning the race, just as he did in the first two races in the World Cup season.

Two of the first three at the very end of the ultra-long distance race for women were Norwegian. A young and talented athlete in third place and a very experienced athlete in first place. It was a good day for Norwegian women.

17/03/2010 || Ski Orienteering World Cup: Reenaas and Taivainen win Ultra-long Final ||News||

Marte Reenaas, Norway and Olli-Markus Taivainen, Finland were the winners in today’s World Cup Final held in Ånn, Sweden. Reenaas had a comfortable 40-second victory over home competitor Helene Söderlund, with the junior from Norway Barbro Kvåle in third place. Natalya Tomilova, Russia, overall leader in the standings, came fourth. With double points applying to this final race, this means that she takes the title from Reenaas by just 4 points.
