Simone Niggli – I don’t know yet about the future
Posted on | October 10, 2010 | Category: Arena
Simone Niggli has won gold at the World Orienteering Championships 17 times. And she has won the World Cup overall 7 times. Will there be more?
– I don’t just know about the coming year yet, says Simone. – I will decide after the end of the season, she says.
Since 2001 when she got her first WOC gold in Finland, she has achieved incredible results. 2003 and 2005 were two very special years with four golds at WOC, but at every WOC since 2001, apart from 2008, she has won at least one WOC gold. She has 3 times been named Sportswoman of the Year in Switzerland.
There is nothing more to win for the 32-year-old athlete, but earlier this year she said that she enjoys the sport even more now. The pressure of doing well is over. She has won everything she can.
She and her husband Matthias Niggli have their little daughter Malin. She is now two years and one month old. – I am 32 years old now. Maybe the family should be given higher priority. On the other hand I do still feel very happy when orienteering. There is also WOC in Switzerland ahead in 2012.
– Will you go on for two years if you continue?
– Yes, I think so, Simone says.
Simone was again the winner today. She was 14 seconds faster than Helena Jansson. The race was in the middle of Geneva in Switzerland and there were some tricky challenges in the old town.
